One small change is all that it takes, to make a difference

This I´ve learned.
Last spring, when I picked my children up from day care after leaving work the kids where upset, mad, tired and many times crying, or better yet screaming their frustration. The trip was short only 5 minutes from work to day care. I was many times in phone, taking care of the last tasks of the day. I went to get the kids and kept hurrying them and often talking on the phone the same time. I was in a hurry to get them home, because the day care was closing at five o'clock and my kids were often the last ones there.
I got mad, because they were putting up a fight with me and I also was tired, so the whole trip home, the 20 minutes was upsetting for us all. Sometimes so badly, that it took us the whole night to get back on good terms.
One night I decided that it has to change. I miss kids all day, and I don´t want to fight with them the first thing after a long day. I want that to change something, to get things better.
So I did.
When I left work, I didn´t take any calls any more. I shut down my phone and sat few minutes in a car. I have lots of reiki tapes, so I put one on and took few breaths and got ready to go to the day care.
My kids waited for me as usual, and let them take their time to pick up there stuff and get to the car. First time, they started to cry again and I put the reiki music on. They started to listen. They were quiet for the whole trip and looked out of the window. I was also quiet, enjoying the music and the beautiful scenery we have when we drive to countryside to our home. We were calm and in our own thoughts.
Needless to say I kept repeating the routine and our trips home changed from total disaster to a nice moment of peace and quiet before we got home.
I realized.
When you find yourself in difficult situations. Take them down one by one by changing it somehow. Like someone smart has said sometime that if you want to change the result, you have to do something different.
The changes are not so hard to do, when take them out of the big picture and just tackle one little thing at the time.
